Tructure Meaning – usage Example
ここ/そこ/あそこ/こちら/そちら/
あちら
Pronouns describing place. ここis the place
the speaker lives in.そこis the place the
listener lives in. あそこ is the place that is
far away fromboth speaker andlistener.
こちら/そちら/あちら are pronouns
describing direction in a more polite nuance.
N1 はN2(place)です。 Describe where an object, a person, a place is. 電話は二階です。
Denwa ha ni kai desu 
The telephone is on second floor.
どこ/どちら どこ asks about place.
どちら asks about direction as well as place.
電話はどこですか。
denwa ha doko desu ka
Where is the phone?
N1のN2 N1 is name of a country or company N2 is
name of product. Product of a country (company)
日本のコンピューターです。
nippon no konpyūtā desu 
Japanese computer.
お国 prefix お is added before a word that relates
to listener or a third person to express respect.
お国はどちらですか。
o kuni ha dochira desu ka
Which is your country?
