Vて/Vなくて、~~
Adj-い remove い + くて, ~~
Adj-な remove な + で, ~~
Meaning : indicates the cause
Usage : The first part of the sentence indicates the cause, the second one shows the results.
Example :
事故があって、バスがおくれてしまいました。
Jiko ga atte, basu ga okurete shimaimashita.
Because there was an accident, the bus came late.
家族に会えなくて、寂しいです。
Kazoku ni aenakute, sabishiidesu.
Because I can’t meet my family, I’m really sad.
うるさくて、勉強できませんでした。
Urusakute, benkyou dekimasendeshita.
Because it was too noisy, I could not study.
Nouns + で
Meaning : because ~
Usage : indicates the cause (which is described by nouns indicating natural phenomenons or events).
Example :
地震でビルが倒れました。
Jishin de biru ga taoremashita.
Because of the earthquake, the building collapsed.
V/ Adj/ N な (plain form) ので,~~
Meaning : because ~ so ~
Usage : Describes something happening objectively.
Example :
用事があるので、お先に失礼します。
Youji ga aru node, osakinishitsurei shimasu.
Because I have works to do, I’ll leave first.
とちゅうで
Meaning : in the middle ~
Usage : goes with verbs in dictionary form and nouns (when it goes with nouns, we add の before it : Noun + の + とちゅうで ~).
Example :
会社へ来る途中で、電話があります。
Kaisha e kuru tochuu de, denwa ga arimasu.
I got a call on the way to work.
4. Kaiwa
遅れて、すみません
ミラー：課長、遅れて、すみません。
Miraa: Kachou, okurete, sumimasen.
中村課長：ミラーさん、どう したんですか。
Nakamura kachou: Miraa-san, doushitan desuka.
ミラー：実は 来る 途中で 事故が あって、バスが 遅れてしまったんです。
Miraa: Jitsuwa kuru tochuu de jiko ga atte, basu ga okurete shimattan desu.
中村課長：バスの 事故ですか。
Nakamura kachou: Basu no jiko desuka.
ミラー：いいえ。交差点で トラックと 車が ぶつかって、バスが 動かなかったんです。
Miraa: Iie. Kousaten de torakku to kuruma ga butsukatte, basu ga ugokanakattan desu.
中村課長：それは 大変でしたね。連絡が ないので、みんな 心配して いたんですよ。
Nakamura kachou: Sore wa taihen deshitane. Renraku ga nainode, minna shinpai shite itan desu yo.
ミラー：駅から 電話したかったんですが、人が たくさん並んで いて．．．。どうも すみませんでした。
Miraa: Eki kara denwa shitakattan desuga, hito ga takusan narande ite… Doumo sumimasendeshita.
中村課長：わかりました。じゃ、会議を 始めましょう。
Miraa: Wakarimashita. Ja, kaigi o hajimemashou.
Translation :
I’m sorry to be late.
Miller: Ms. Nakamura, I’m sorry I’m late.
Section manager Nakamura: What happened, Mr. Miller?
Miller: Actually, there was a traffic accident on my way here, and the bus was delayed.
Section manager Nakamura: An accident involving the bus?
Miller: No. A truck and a car collied at the intersection and the bus could not move.
Section manager Nakamura: That was bad. There was no call from you, so everyone was worried.
Miller: I wanted to call from the station, but many people were queuing at the telephones… I’m sorry.
Section manager Nakamura: I see. Well, let’s start the meeting.
